Introducing the Yorkie

No, we didn't get one of these:

even though I think they are absolutely gorgeous!

No, our Yorkie is a bit bigger. Actually it's pretty massive:

Since the arrival of Wee Monster, we decided we needed to make our accomodation for races a touch more child/family friendly. Our old trailer was very utilitarian, metal, cold and basic. So we went caravan shopping.

Initially we were looking for something small that would just provide sleeping space, hopefully a double bed and a set of bunks, thinking we would continue to set up an outdoor kitchen. We looked for several months, but anything with bunks seemed to be really long and much older than we'd originally planned. Most caravans these days seem to be aimed at the grey nomad market - and they just want room for two. When we finally found the Yorkie, we were amazed to find something in our limited budget that gave us what we wanted, and then some.

The Yorkie is split into three "rooms" - a double bed at the rear, a kitchen/dining space in the middle and three bunks at the front.

J moved heaven and earth to get it camping ready and roadworthy in time for the Queen's Birthday long weekend, with new electrics, new water system, new gas system, new wheels & brakes (and all the bits that I thought were included in the term "brakes" but apparently aren't...?), new seating, new bed, serviced stove and fridge... And of course, dog accomodation installed - for this first racing season, we've put dog crates on the bunk beds.

Although it will take us a little while to get used to towing such a big trailer, it made our camping experience on the weekend very cosy!

There were a few chuckles from our friends about the size of the new caravan - J is known for his tendency to overkill. Of course, having a bigger van means there's the temptation to pack more stuff... But I'm still not sure how/why I packed the wooden fruit bowl!!
