Happy Christmas Eve

ok, I could make lots of excuses, and they'd be good ones, but the truth is, I'm pretty crap at planning things out more than a week or two in advance. Work has been crazy busy, even more than normal in the last few weeks of the year, (I'm starting a new position in the new year) and despite many expectations that we would start our vacation early, we were still at work on Friday 20th Dec. And when we started the holidays, how much Christmas preparation had I done? Almost none. Hence this week has been two days to cram in all my present shopping and cooking and all the other stuff I haven't gotten around to recently. Whoops!

Actually Operation Christmas has been pretty effective so far. J was a great help, we got the house and garden spick and span on the weekend, and mapped out our plan of attack. 3 days of celebrations with 3 different parts of the family, approx 20 gifts, 3 dishes to cook.

I got up and hit the shops early, and was, as always, impressed with the politeness of the crowds, despite the queues and the parking dramas. Yesterday I knocked off most of the gifts, an appointment, wrapping and a cuppa with friends - watching littlies unwrap gifts must be the most special part of Christmas! More wrapping, menu planning before bed, then repeat today. We're looking pretty much on track.

The biggest challenge has been how to balance my time out and about with the dogs' needs. Ishka is still confined to the C crate to make sure she rests and lets her leg heal.

Ishka doesn't look happy about her crate rest.

Yesterday's awful weather made the choice of leaving the boys inside to keep her company as easy one. However, I had to balance the size of Frankie's bladder with the time I was going to spend out of the house. Fortunately, Frankie's eyes have improved a lot and his medication has been cut back. This means he is drinking less (slightly) and he is peeing less frequently (much!).

Today the weather is better and I'm happy to let the boys spend the afternoon on the deck while I do the Christmas cooking. Of course, they have the whole yard to roam, but they'll mostly stay as close to the back door as they can get.

All that garden, but no...

We'd rather snooze right here by the back door.

Hope your Christmas preparations are getting on happily too!
